Training under PM Vishwakarma Scheme begins

A week-long training programme under the PM Vishwakarma Scheme aimed at skilling and fostering self-employment commenced on Wednesday at KVK Bishnupur.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Bishnupur district lead district manager Y Ibochou, former union minister Thounaojam Chaoba, Bishnupur DIC general manager Aheibam Loken, National Skill Development Corporation state engagement officer Masotmi Zimik and KVK, Bishnupur senior scientist Kh Brajamani as presidium members.
The training covers five trades namely goldsmithing, tailoring, washing, fishing net making, and basket making.
In his address, Y Ibochou stated that although the PM Vishwakarma Scheme was introduced belatedly in Manipur, efforts are underway to ensure that all individuals get access to the opportunities.
He highlighted that the participants may apply for loans of up to Rs 1 lakh from banks, with repayment terms featuring low-interest rates over an 18-month period.
Furthermore, beneficiaries who regularly repay the loaned sum would be considered for larger amount, enabling them to expand their businesses.
Speaking on the occasion, Thounaojam Chaoba noted that the primary goal of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme is to create self-employment opportunities.
He.
stated that it is Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to ensure every individual have source of income, recognising that not everyone can secure a government job.
This initiative is expected to contribute to the economic development of the country to a certain extent, he added.
