Imphal, September 24 2023:
Accusing the government of not initiating actions against two Kuki MLAs, who husbands are leaders of Kuki militant groups involved in the campaign to disintegrate the state, Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee for Peace has demanded the government to ensure unconditional release of an arrested village volunteer while cautioning of launching stir if he is not released at the earliest.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Sunday, committee convenor Yumnam Ibeyaima asked the Government to stop victimising the brave village volunteers, who are defending the state and its people.
The remark made by chief minister against the village volunteers is unfortunate and they cannot accept such victimisation of the brave sons of the soil, she said and termed as ridiculous the CM referring to the Russia-Ukraine war in the context of the present situation in Manipur.
Recalling union home minister Amit Shah's visit to Yaiskul assembly constituency for election campaign last year, she enquired the whereabouts of the union minister in this crucial situation.
Chipping in, Committee convenor Laishram Memma said that the government is doing nothing against the 10 Kuki MLAs, who are waging war to disintegrate the state.
However, the same government is showing its might on the village volunteers, who are defending the state and its people, which is a constitutional obligation of the government.
She questioned the ground for NIA in arresting one of the village volunteers, who was granted bail by the court and the reason for the government's inability to arrest Kuki militants, who are carrying out assault on the state and its people.
She further demanded the government to arrest the 10 Kuki MLAs under NSA instead of allowing them to enjoy the perks of being MLAs, and also to release the
village defence volunteer unconditionally.
