Imphal, May 18 2023: Tamenglong Battalion of Jwalamukhi Sector Assam Rifles safely evacuated four visually impaired students of Haikakpokpi Mission Blind School, Kakching who were stranded at the School, to their respective homes.

According to PRO (De-fence), amid the ethnic vio-lence in Manipur leading to separation of family members and displacement of many, a distress call was received from the district adminis-tration and parents about the stranded students.

Consequently, riflewomen of the Battalion coordinated with the local units of Assam Rifles enroute from Kakching to Imphal and played a signif-icant role in evacuation of the four students, including three girls, the PRO added.

Informing that the students were further evacuated to their home in Tamenglong and Noney district by the Battalion on May 17, the PRO said the students were also provided with food, medical assistance and other essential amenities.

On the other-hand, PRO IGAR (S) informed that the recent safe return of 124 dis-placed civilians to Moreh fa-cilitated by Assam Rifles has been further ensconced to their native places in Imphal successfully.

In a release, the PRO IGAR (South) said the effort, sup-ported by local community leaders and civil administra-tion marks a significant step towards bringing normalcy and hope in the region, as the affected individuals now have the opportunity to re-build their lives and foster inter-community harmony.

Assam Rifles played a cru-cial role in ensuring the safe return of these displaced in-dividuals, the PRO stated, adding that, they provided essential relief assistance, including food, shelter, and medical aid, while also en-suring their security and es-corting them safely to Imphal.

Stressing that the return of displaced Indians is a positive sign of healing and progress, the PRO added that the un-wavering dedication of Assam Rifles has significantly con-tributed to the normalisation of the situation in the region, as they work towards rebuild-ing trust and fostering unity among the local populace.

The achievement instils op-timism that the region will continue to move forward on the path of lasting peace and prosperity, allowing families to reunite and communities to rebuild, the PRO added.

Meanwhile, Assam Rifles extended medical assistance to the remote villages requir-ing medical aid and provided daily essential items and wa-ter to various relief camps during the on-going crisis in the state.

According to PRO IGAR (South), a number of rescue operations were conduct-ed and medical assistance provided to the unattended patients from remote villages of New Keithelmanbi.

The displaced civilians in relief camps at Pearsonmun, Gangpimual, Compound Veng and M Songgel were provided with daily essential items, medical aid and water, the PRO informed, adding that, medical team also conducted lecture to civilians wherein personal hygiene and stress management issues were addressed.

The villagers appreciated and extended their gratitude towards the initiative taken by Assam Rifles for the welfare of patients who are unable to visit and purchase the med-icines, the PRO maintained.
