MLA petitions centre to probe ATO 'goof-up'

Imphal, July 05 2023: Sagolband MLA Rajkumar Imo Singh on Wednesday wrote to the Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia requesting for an investigation regarding affixing Lamka' as the address of ATO Imphal Airport in Air India Ticket.

In his letter, the MLA said that few Air India tickets have mentioned the ATO office of Imphal, Manipur as Air India, ATO Imphal Airport, Lamka, as found through various social media platforms.

It is totally unacceptable for Air India to make such gross error and act of negligence/conspiracy to have altered the name from Imphal to Lamka in the official ticket.

The letter continued that there is only one airport in Manipur in the capital city of Imphal.

Thus, there can be no error of judgment that an adjoining airport name has been tagged.

As such, the MLA urged the union minister to look into this matter seriously and ensure that the original name of the ATO stands corrected in the tickets of Air India and such acts are never repeated in the future again.

He further requested for taking appropriate action against the officials of Air India and any other officials involved from any organisation/government in making such alterations by initiating a time bound inquiry and also ensure that adequate punishment is given to those involved that it is never repeated again.

Meanwhile, RPI (Atha wale) national secretary Maheshwar Thounaojam met with Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Dr Vijay Kumar Singh on Wednesday requesting for constitution of special inquiry commission to look into the change of address of Bir Tikendrajit Interna tional Airport, Imphal to Lamka under Churachandpur district.

In response, the MoS assured to conduct the inquiry as soon as possible.

Speaking to the media after meeting the MoS at his office in Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan, New Delhi, Maheshwar opined that there is need to investigate the matter to ascertain any hidden agenda at play.

He recounted that in a recent protest at Jantar Mantar, a Kuki activist had clearly stated the intent to take over the civil aviation department.

As such, the subsequent change of the address from Imphal to Lamka looks very much premeditated, he remarked.

Maheshwar also raised posers on the central government's apathetic attitude on the violence which has completed two months, despite the Indian Intelligence Department, which is one of the most powerful and advanced department in the world, providing input of weapons being smuggled into Manipur from Myanmar and used in attacking the people of Manipur, who are also the citizens of India.
