Security forces rounded up two cadres of the proscribed PREPAK (Pro) and one self-styled sergeant of proscribed KCP (Noyon), on April 30 and May 1 respectively, and also recovered a huge cache of weapons.
According to a press release by Police Control Room of Manipur Police, a joint team of police and Assam Rifles arrested Naoroibam Joyshangkar alias Loyumba alias Khougang (39) of Lairikyengbam Leikai and Thingom Suresh alias Boy'(38) of Khurai Chaithabi Leirak of PREPAK (PRO) and recovered 9mm pistol with magazine, one .32 pistol with magazine, six live rounds and nine cartridges, from their possession.
Meanwhile, on May 1, security forces arrested one self-styled sergeant major of proscribed KCP (Noyon), identified as Thoudam Nanao Singh alias Chingsanglakpa alias Putra (43) from Waithou area of Thoubal district.
One .32 pistol with a magazine containing six live rounds was seized from his possession.
The press release further informed that on the same day, a team of security forces conducted search operation at Seijang village of Jiribam district recovering six single barrel guns, 108 12-bore cartridges and one empty cartridge, four walkie-talkie radios with charger, seven bullet proof jackets with BP plate, two cartridge belts and two carry bags.
Meanwhile, a combined team of Assam Rifles and Manipur police on Thursday launched joint operation in Zalenkot village area of Churachandpur district on April 30 and recovered arms and ammunition.
A release by PRO IGAR (S) informed that acting on specific intelligence about presence of arms and ammunition at the vicinity of Zalenkot village, the combined team launched operation and recovered one 9mm carbine machine gun, four 12 mm single barrel rifles, one 40 mm grenade launcher, two improvised heavy mortars, one 9mm pistol, ammunition and war like stores.
The recovered items have been handed over to police, it mentioned.
