Maiba & Kaibi organise 1st Peace Treaty Reaffirmation

Sheemai (Maiba) and Shiilosiinafii (Kaibi) villages held their first Peace Treaty Reaffirmation 2024 on Wednesday at Barak Valley, Kaibi village, Senapati district.
According to sources, the two villages signed a peace treaty in 1917, in order to strengthen their relationship.
Peace Treaty Reaffirmation president Nenio Daniel in his welcome address spoke about the Peace Treaty, signed in 1917 under the leadership of forefathers.
He urged the two villagers to follow the path of peace and brotherhood, honouring the good example set by the forefathers for a bright future.
Rev SK Heni, pastor Maiba Baptist Church, recalled forefathers exchanging spears, highlighting the importance of reaffirmation celebrations to serve the living God and to love one another through such events.
The pastor read out the scripture, "Behold how good and pleasant it is for brothers to live in unity," and prayed for long-lasting relationships between two villages.
Kaibi village chairman P Hekha recalled that the peace treaty was signed between 1915-1920, and urged the younger generations to spread the message.
He also appreciated Maiba village for their neighbourly love shown to Kaibi village.
Hekha also announced that a committee for five-year plan, comprising members from the two villages, was established.
Maiba village chairman BK Ngaopunii, praised Kaibi village for their unwavering commitment of love and care for Maiba villagers, stating that words are insufficient to describe the love and care they have shown.
D Daiho emphasised the importance of the treaty between two villages, known for their hunting skills in the olden days.
He also stressed the need for reconciliation due to the arrival of Christianity in the region.
The elder from Maiba village then urged the Mao and Poumai communities to become good witnesses of God.
N Saheni from Kaibi village also spoke on the occasion, encouraging parents to raise their young children in the fear of God to have a bright future.
Prior to the official programme, memorial stones were erected in both the villages.
A peace treaty was signed to strengthen the relationship between the two villages.
