Gun-fight at Maphou Dam, Sabungkhok

Imphal, December 10 2023: Armed men suspected to be Chin-Kuki militants launched attack on Meetei villages near Maphou Dam and Sabungkhok in Imphal East district.

According to sources, armed Kukis fired on a Meetei village near Maphou Dam at about 7.30 am Sunday using sophisticated weapons and bombs.

However, volunteers guarding the village retaliated thereby resulting in fierce encounter between the two sides till around 9am .

Gorkha Regiment personnel stationed nearby the Meetei village also fired some mortar shells but there is no report of casualty.

Around the same time, Kuki militants fired towards Meetei village at Sabungkhok village under Yaingangpokpi police station in Imphal East.

However, there was no retaliation from village volunteers guarding Sabungkhok.
