Many attend 'Mangani Leihun' of 13 martyrs

The "Mangani Leihun" ritual of the 13 Meetei people, who were found brutally murdered at Leithao village under Tengnoupal district on December 4, was held on Sunday at Andro Torongthel where their bodies have been laid to rest.
The ritual ceremony which was held under the banner "Athoubasingna Kathok-E Yawolna Khumang Chaosalli", was attended by thousands of people from different parts of the state including members of various CSOs, clubs, organisations, meira paibi groups and student bodies.
All shops and commercial establishments in the valley districts remained closed and passenger vehicles remained off the road as the public joined the ritual ceremony of the 13 martyrs.
The ceremony started off with a 'Pena' recital followed by Thang-Ta performance as a mark of respect to the departed souls.
AMMIK artistes presented patriotic songs in honour of the slain 13.People from all walks of life assembled at Thoubal Mela ground from early in the morning and proceeded to Andro Torongthel with the photos of the 13 martyrs.
The procession was marked by people lining up all along the way and offering floral tributes intermittently.
With large number of people turning up for the "Mangani Leihun" vehicular movement was seriously disrupted while police personnel maintained vigil in and around the area to prevent unwanted incidents.
The ritual ceremony continued till late afternoon.
