Imphal, January 23 2015 : Chief Minister of Manipur Okram Ibobi has encouraged scientists of the State to take up research on wide and varied fields and contribute something for the State and the people.

The Chief Minister was addressing the valedictory function of ISCA National Seminar on Science and Technology for Human Development at Manipur University today.

The National seminar was jointly organised by the ISCA, Imphal Chapter, Manipur University and supported by the Indian Science Centre Association (ISCA).

The seminar began from Jan 21 .

Prof HNK Sarma, Vice-Chancellor of MU attended the programme as the functional president and Ashok Saxena, general secretary ISCA was the distinguished dignitary.

Speaking at the function, O Ibobi said that scientific temper has not yet been inculcated among the public.

The interaction of the young researchers with eminent scientists and professionals would surely inspire them and pave the way for the young minds to excel in the global arena.

Applauding the works of ISCA, the CM said that such seminar would inculcate scientific temper among the younger generations and develop them in various fields of science and technology.

Assuring all possible assistance from the end of the State Government to researchers working on projects which would benefit the society, the CM said that the university authority should start taking up initiatives on energy conservations by using LED (light emitting diode) bulbs in all the buildings and offices.

He further cautioned the MU authorities to follow safety rules and norms in construction works that have been taken up in the campus.

If not, it could have catastrophic outcome in the event of calamities.

He added that the State Government would initiate new provisions in every new house to limit power consumption.

The National seminar on science and technology is an annual event which is held in various parts of the North East region.

"The vast population has not yet tasted the fruits of science and technology," said Prof HNK Sarma.

To bridge the gap between the vast majority of the mass, scientists need to work more in this area, he said.

Conservation of energy through application of science and technology is the main focus, he said while stressing on the need to limit energy consumption.

Chief guest of the function also distributed the Young Scientist Awards to five research scholars who presented papers on different topics at the National seminar.
