CM sets eyes on IT-SEZ, IITs

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has said that the State Government is ready to set up various IT institutes at different parts of Imphal with an aim to give proper IT training to students.
He was speaking as chief guest at the first convocation ceremony of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Manipur held at its Langol campus today.
The Chief Minister said that the State Government has also set a target to attract more students from other parts of the country by establishing IT-SEZ, IIITs and other IT institutes at Imphal.
He said that most of the important institutes are opened in Imphal and adjoining areas considering the advantage of better road connectivity and security.
Saying that Lamphelpat has now become an institutional area of the State, the Chief Minister said that premier institutes like, RIMS, Central Agricultural University, NIT and ICAR are located at Lamphelpat.

Maintaining that the State Government is putting in best efforts to bring development despite different hindrances, O Ibobi said that it is a must to establish premier institutes to give effective training and education to the youth of the State.
He also asked the faculties of NIT Manipur to put in efforts to become the best IT institute of the North East and one of the top-10 IT institutes of the country.
Chairman of Board of Governors of NIT Manipur, Prof Yagnaswami Sundara Rajan, Education and CAF&PD Minister M Okendro and Homi Bhabha Chair Professor of Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, Prof Bikash Sinha attended the function as president and guests of honour respectively.
In his speech, M Okendro expressed hope that NIT Manipur would contribute its mite in the development of IT sector.
Saying that the State Government has been providing support to the institute, the Minister said that similar co-operation would be given in future as well.
He said that the time has come to develop IT sector in the State.
Saying that it is a matter of pride that 50 per cent of the students who have passed out from NIT Manipur get jobs in different corporate houses, he exhorted the faculties to produce more talented students in future as well.
Prof Bikash Sinha said that IT plays a major role in bringing development to a country or State.
In Manipur as well, IT, science and technology play important roles in all spheres of life.
Certificates of BTech degree were distributed to 60 students at the convocation while gold medals in Electronics Engineering, Computer Science Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering were awarded to Kapuipai Paul, Mamita Pukhrambam and Monika Naorem respectively.
