Imphal, August 16 2015: The Joint Philanthropic Or-ganisation (JPO), Chura- chandpur has condemned in the strongest term the act of atrocities and vandalism against an ambulance belonging to the Kuki Khanglai Lawmpi (KKL) and the reported manhandling and threat to the driver and occupants by bandh supporters on August 14 at Changangei, near airport at around 1.30 pm.

A joint statement issued by leaders of Young Mizo Association (YMA), Manipur; Zomi Youth Association (ZYA), Ghqs; Hmar Youth Association (HYA), Ghqs and Kuki Khanglai Lawmpi (KKL), Ghqs said that the act of vandalism happened even as the JCILPS announced through the press that medical and other essential services would be exempted from the purview of the bandh/public curfew.

The KKL medical ambulance was on a life-saving mission to Raj Medicity, it said.

It is also disheartening that the State authority and the JCILPS leaders remain silent spectators to the 'barbaric' act and opt to look otherwise, the joint statement said.

The JPO pointed out that the bandh supporters warned the ambulance driver that the vehicle would not be allowed to ply along the Tiddim Road any longer if the driver goes to the press.

The JPO posited that the act on the part of the bandh supporters is an infringement of basic human rights and in contravention of International laws as medical ambulances are given free passage even in times of war.

The JPO said that the incident, if not solved amicably, would cause more problems in future.

At the same time, the Hmar Youth Association, Imphal Joint Headquarters in statement conveyed strong condemnation to the reported act of vandalism on the KKL ambulance.

It urged all concerned to refrain from such acts in future.
