Imphal, August 16 2015:
Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR), Imphal has recommended declaration of few wards in JNIMS and RIMS Hospital as 'Place of safety', under the provisions of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act, 2000 as increasing number of juveniles have joined in the indefinite hunger strike demanding ILP .
A statement issued by MCPCR member K Maharabi Singh said the recommendation has been necessitated in order to provide adequate emergency life saving medical arrangements, appropriate security and other essential services to the young protesters.
Although such cases are, by law, supposed to be handled by Observation Homes, the Commission said Observation Homes present in the State have neither adequate medical facilities nor round the clock doctors.
As such, a recommendation letter has been submitted to Chief Secretary of the State today demanding declaration of few JNIMS and RIMS Hospital wards as 'Place of safety' .
A team of MCPCR comprising of K Maharabi, Th Jaya and Ch Nabachandra visited five juveniles who are on hunger strike at RIMS hospital where they are kept for medical treatment, the statement added.
