FOCS' People's Convention in Bishnupur today

In remembrance of the May 3, 2023 incident allegedly orchestrated by illegal immigrants from Myanmar and Chin-Ku-ki-Zo community, specifically targeting the Meetei community, Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) will conduct a State Level People's Convention at Yangoi Ningthou community hall in Bishnupur on Friday.
Addressing media persons at the Thongju Boroi Makhong office of Manipur Women Federation (MWF) on Thursday, FOCS president M Manihar said that the convention to organised in collaboration with 16 organisations will be based on the theme "Ima Leibakta Shingnarakpa Numit".
Manipur University Anthropology Department former head Prof Dr W Nabakumar, Manipuri Department assistant professor Dr Naorem Sanatomba and Indira Gandhi National Tribal University faculty Dr Homen Thangjam will be present as resource persons.
Urging everyone, including civil society organisations, meira paibi groups, clubs and internally displaced people from Churachandpur, Moreh, and Ekou, to participate in the convention, he also appealed all to light candles to bring peace in the strife-torn state on Friday evening.
While emphasising that attacks by Chin-Kuki-Zo people, including illegal immigrants from Myanmar since May 3 last year, pose serious threat to the people of Manipur, Manihar stressed the importance of commemorating this day to ensure its place in Manipur's history.
While various organisations are preparing to observe May 3 according to their respective ideologies, which FOCS welcomes, Manihar, however appealed for collective observance of the day under a single theme from next year.
