Sit-in demands release of Arun Khundongbam

A sit-in protest was staged at Shikhong Bazar on Sunday demanding immediate release of Arun Khundongbam of Shikhong Bazar who was arrested by police after summoning him under the pretext of recording his statement in connection with the May 4 incident.
Speaking to media persons during the protest which was organised by Justice Unity Peace and Security Organisation (JUPSO), Shikhong Bazar and Shikhong Bazar Meira Paibi, one of tne protestors clarified that Arun was not present at the said village when the incident occurred on May 4 .
The department concerned must release Arun who is not involved in the incident in any way, the protester said.
The protestors also held placards and chanted slogans such as blameless person should not be arrested, Arun is innocent, release guiltless Arun, justice for everyone, etc.
On the other hand, a release by JUPSO, Shikhong Bazar secretary Oinam Pearson said that the people of Shikhong Bazar and surrounding area oppose remand of Arun Khundongbam to police custody till July 31 after he was summoned by police to give statement on July 20 .
Arun is completely innocent with regard to the case as he was neither at the place of incident nor joined the mob which can be substantiated through testimonies of people of his locality, club and meira paibi members, the release asserted.
