12 more Meeteis IDPs reach Assam Rifles camp

Among the several Meetei people who fled into Myanmar to save their lives from Kuki mobs when the ethnic violence broke out, 12 more returned to Moreh and are currently taking shelter at the Kondong Lairembi post of 5 Assam Rifles, taking the number of displaced Meetei people in the AR camp to 23 .
Seven residents of Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai including three women along with five others entered Moreh under security cover on Sunday around 10.30 am and imme diately taken to the Assam Rifles camp.
According to one of the displaced people, who had to take refuge in the neighbouring country, they fled Moreh to escape the ethnic cleansing of Meeteis by Kuki residents on May 3.They burned houses, shops, hotels owned by Meeteis in early evening of May 3 hours before the retaliatory violence spread in Imphal and other valley areas.
As they had no other option, they chose to flee into Myanmar to save their lives, the person, who refused to disclose his identity, said.
Another displaced person, Sorokhaibam Sushila of Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai thanked Assam Rifles for taking them to the safety of their camp from the Indo -Myanmar border.
She appealed to the Central and state governments to end the violence and restore peace in the state at the earliest.
Currently, 23 displaced Meetei people are taking refuge in the AR camp after they initially fled into Myanmar.
The 23 persons include 12 from Moreh, seven Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai, and four from Kakching Khunou.
