RYDO hosts Mera Hou Chongba festival

The age-old festival of 'Mera Hou Chongba' and 'Mera Wa Yungba' signifying the fraternal bond between the hill and valley people, was celebrated by Rural Youth Development Organisation (RYDO), Charangpat Maning Leikai at its playground on Thursday.
The programme was attended by Charangpat Zilla Parishad caretaker member Sougrakpam Japan as chief guest and local elder Soraokhai-bam Guni as president, while Charangpat Gram Panchayat caretaker pradhan Sh Joychand, social workers Kh Premnath and Kh Roben, Tangkhul Khullen village 'mantri' Mingthing Keishing, secretary Yuingam Chithung, village authority functionary Unison and other hill and valley leaders were guests of honour.
The event dedicated to the age-old relationship between the indigenous people of Manipur also featured cultural dance performances of Tangkhul and Meetei communities, exchange of presents and conduct of 'Mera Wa Yungba' rituals including lighting and hoisting of lamps by the dignitaries.
Later, a friendly women's football match was played between Tangkhul Khullen and Charangpat village.
