Workers' Day observance held across state

Manipur joined the global community in observing Labour Day also referred to as May Day on Wednesday with various unions and CSOs commemorating the day under different themes.
Workers' Union Manipur observed the Day themed 'Social Justice and Decent Work' at its Uripok office during which speakers pointed out that a society will only regress if there is discrimination and suppression of the working class while stressing that all should hold in high esteem hard work and dedication of the workers.
All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) Manipur State Committee observed the 135th May Day under the theme 'Social justice and decent work for all successful struggle of workers' at THAU ground, Thangmeiband in the presence of AITUC Manipur president M Nara and working president S Yaima along with leaders of other workers' unions.
Valley and Hill Labour Group organised Workers' Day at Rupmahal Theatre during which demands were raised that the authorities release of wage of the workers in time, ensure benefits of welfare schemes to construction workers and fix minimum wage of Rs 21,000 per month.
The event was attended by Construction Labour Union leaders and social activists along with members of the organisation.
LVTC Construction & Materials under Leirik Vocational Skill and Entrepreneurship Training Centre also organised the observance and presented gifts to its skilled workers.
Meanwhile, United Labour Organisation, Manipur on the occasion of May Day paid floral tributes to Jananeta Irawat and observed a two minutes' silence in respect of the departed souls of the ongoing conflict.
In a release, the Organisation also extended solidarity to the farmers and worker community of the state, while acknowledging their role in the development of the nation.
It also urged the workers to be disciplined and dedicated members of the society.
Kanglei Economic Development Organisation (KEDO) also observed its 17th foundation day-cum-May Day at the Sangeet Kala Sangam Hall, Lamlong Keithel with KEDO president Soibam Maniton, HERICOUN advisor Mayanglambam Eepu, Lamlong Keithel president RK Dhanapati, KEDO advisor Th Shanti, DESAM founder president cum advisor Laishram Romesh and SK Women's College lecturer Moirangthem Angamba Meitei as the presidium members.
Speakers of the programme stressed on the importance of improving economy of the state to lessen impact of the ongoing conflict and appealed for the people's support to initiatives of KEDO for the development of the state's economy.
As part of the event, KEDO presented 10 chairs, table and other items for use by the women vendors of Lamlong Keithel.
