RIMS Hospital reopens ITU ward

Imphal, February 22 2024: In a significant step aimed at enhancing critical care services, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal has reopened its Medical Intensive Treatment Unit (ITU) ward.

The reopening ceremony took place on Thursday at the department of medicine, RIMS.

The event was attended by RIMS director professor G Sunil Kumar and medical superintendent professor N Sanjib.

Addressing the gathering, director Sunil Kumar highlighted the institute's commitment towards expanding medical facilities, particularly in critical care.

With the addition of 34 ICU beds, RIMS aims to provide essential medical services at affordable rates, with the ICU facilities available at a nominal cost ranging from Rs 300 to Rs 400, he said, while adding that the institute also aims to reduce costs to as low as Rs 50 with prior permission from the ministry.

He also emphasised RIMS' intention to offer maximum free-of-cost medicines and investigations, along with modern facilities and procurement of latest equipment and medicines to serve the people effectively.

Speaking on the occasion, professor N Sanjib commended the effort of increasing the ICU bed capacity from 12 to 34, and pointed out benefits to patients who cannot afford treatment at private hospitals.

He also congratulated faculty members for their active involvement in initiating and operationalising the 22-bedded ICU and reopening the ITU ward.

The programme had the participation of heads of departments, faculty members, staff, and nursing officials of RIMS, reflecting the collective commitment of the institute towards providing comprehensive healthcare services to the community.
