Imphal, January 11 2022:
While asserting that the inability to conduct physical classes for primary and upper primary (UP) students due to COVID-19 pandemic is a big loss for students studying in class I to VIII, Democratic Student's Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has urged the education department to take up necessary action so as to save the academic career of students in the lower classes.
Talking to media persons at its Kwakeithel office on Tuesday, DESAM education and academic affairs secretary Th Somol Luwang expressed disappointment over the alleged silence of the education department even if students are losing the opportunity of learning in the conventional manner despite having an academic calendar in place.
Most of the private schools in the state have conducted examination or internal assessment for classes I to VIII and some private schools have made preparations for commencement of new academic session, he said and asked if the academic calendar prepared by education (S) department is dissimilar for government schools and private schools though both are operating under the guidelines of the same department.
According to Th Somol Luwang, some government primary and upper primary schools are without any teacher either due to service utilisation or transfer to other schools and hence students studying in such schools are facing severe inconvenience.
Apart from this, who will be responsible if the relevant department start taking up steps to commence new session, he questioned further and suggested authority concerned to conduct simple assessment for students of class I to VIII of government schools so that students could be promoted to next higher classes.
