Kakching, November 13 2023:
A mass sit-in protest was staged near the residence of chief medical officer (retired) Dr Nongmaithem Birchandra at Kakching Paji Leikai Ayangbung Pareng on Monday denouncing placing of a hand grenade on Sunday.
The agitators held placards inscribed with words like, "We condemn placing of bomb in public place", "Don't create atmosphere of fear", "Don't place unreasonable demand", "Stop frequent monetary demand", "Cease infighting", etc.
Speaking to media persons, one of the protestors informed all concerned that Dr Birchandra has been rendering invaluable healthcare service to the people of Kakching and surrounding areas.
At a time when the state is passing through a critical phase with people living in apprehension and suffering, such bomb threat is condemnable, the protestor said.
Emphasising that even if there are disagreement it can be resolved by holding talks instead of endangering the public, the protestor appealed against repeating such threats.
Meanwhile, Indian Medical Association-South East Manipur (IMA-SEM) Branch has condemned the bomb threat on retired CMO Dr N Birchandra.
The Association pointed out that threatening a doctor who is serving the people lacks justification.
To place bomb in densely populated area will only terrorise the residents, it added.
IMA-SEM further said that doctors should be allowed to serve the people without any fear.
