Imphal, November 13 2023:
The All Manipur Tribals Development Grievances Forum (AMTDGF) has appealed to the State Government to release the pending funds of MGNREGA to all registered job card holders of Manipur at the earliest.
A statement issued by Gangonglung Khumba, general secretary AMTDGF, noted that the Ministry of Rural Development (Department of Rural Development), Government of India had sanctioned grants in-aid amounting to Rs 330,13,64,000 (Three hundred and thirty crore, thirteen lakh and sixty four thousand rupees) for payment of material component to the State Government on March 23, 2023 .
"The material sanction amount includes an amount of Rs 10581.11 Lakh towards material components for YY 2022-23 and Rs 22432.53 Lakh towards pending liabilities for the previous FY 2021-2022 (as on March 31, 2022)", it added.
The statement continued that despite the Central Government releasing 75% of the Central share for payment of pending liabilities, the State Government has failed to transfer the funds for implementation of works under MGNREGA.
The statement also called it 'ridiculous' that the State Government had released a sum of Rs 100,00,00,000 (One hundred crore) on August 4, 2023 to 16 districts of Manipur despite the repeated calls/ appeals made by valley & hill based organisations/ forums to released the pending funds of MGNREGA.
AMTDGF further cautioned that it would be compelled to launch various forms of agitation if the State Government does not address the grievances of registered job card holders of 16 districts of Manipur at the earliest.
