143 Bn CRPF observes Martyrs' Day

Imphal, January 30 2024:
To pay tribute to the brave souls who sacrificed their lives for the cause of nation's freedom and independence, 143 Battalion CRPF observed Martyrs' Day at its Lamphelpat headquarters here, on Tuesday.
During the commemorative event, family members (next of kins) of the martyrs, who selflessly laid down their lives during active operations against militancy, were honoured by commandant Ravinder Sharma.
The brave hearts honoured on the occasion included Manoranjan Singh, assistant commandant of 201 Bn, CT/ GD S Sanjit Singh of 44 Bn, CT/GD Md Latif of 133 BN and CT/GD H Punshi Singh.
On September 17, 2009, 'Shaheed' Manoranjan led operation against the Maoist in Dantewada of Chhattisgarh.
After a fierce gun fight forced the Maoists to flee from the area, Ng Manoranjan and six CRPF personnel sacrificed their lives while fighting.
On the other-hand, on February 17, 2004 troops of 44 CRPF launched operation against insurgents at Moirang Khunou under Kumbi police station.
The insurgents ambushed the troops by opening indiscriminate fire on the troops.
The troops retaliated and as a result of effective bold and courageous response, the insurgents were forced to flee from the area.
In the ensuing exchange of fire, S Sanjit Singh and another CT/GD succumbed to injuries and attained martyrdom.
On September 24, 1997 troops of 133 Bn while returning after an operation in Imphal, insurgents hiding in an ambush opened indiscriminate fire at the troops.
The CRPF troops also retaliated fire.
In the fierce encounter, CT/GD Mohammad Latif and other 5 CRPF troopers laid down their lives in service of the nation.
Also, a convoy of 50 BN while returning after an operation on December 27 was ambushed by the insurgents.
The troops immediately retaliated and launched a counter attack.
In the ensuing encounter, CT/GD H Punshi Singh and four others who sustained serious injuries succumbed and attained martyrdom, recounted the CRPF unit.
