RIMS observes Public Health Dentistry Day

Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal observed National Public Health Dentistry Day 2024" on the theme "Utilising behavioural science to promote oral health" at the Jubilee Hall of the Institute on Wednesday.
The observance programme was organised by RIMS Dental College Department of Public Health Dentistry.
Prof (Dr) Atul Goel, the director general of Health Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, who is on a two-day visit to RIMS and inaugurated an ENT Workstation, New Tobacco Cessation Centre in Dental and Genetic Lab at Anatomy Department, attended observance by sharing the dais with RIMS director Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, additional DDG and director (EMR) of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare Dr L Swasticharan, RIMS medical superintendent Prof N Sanjib Singh, dean (Academics) Prof Brogen Singh Akoijam and Dental College principal Prof B Praveen Reddy.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Atul Goel highlighted the importance of good oral health and emphasised the role of our mouth which plays important role m maintaining our health.
Many diseases can be invaded through our diets and the way we consume the food, he said, while sharing the preventive knowledge of diseases with and without medicines.
He also advised doctors to teach the persons on how to stay healthy and prevent from various diseases.
In his address, RIMS director Sunil Kumar appreciated the director general and the additional DDG and director (EMR) for attending the function.
He then announced that RIMS is one the best performing dental colleges of country, having already achieved many national awards.
He also mentioned that by next year, two senior residents for each of the nine departments are likely to be appointed.

The director also remarked that in the near future, as a prerequisite requirement, senior residency will be added for becoming a faculty in the institute.
Prof G Sunil Kumar then said that oral health plays a vital physically, mentally, socially and economically role to our life.
Without good oral health, a person is not healthy enough.
We need to take care of our oral cavity to stay healthy and prevent from other diseases, he stated, adding that the Dental College enthusiastically participated and organised oral health awareness programmes at different rural places and schools.
The celebration was also attended by RIMS deputy director (Admin) RK Mecolt Singh, CAO/FA Sairem Sarat Singh, all heads of departments/principal of College of Nursing, RIMS faculties, chief nursing officer in-charge, nursing officials, students and staff of the Institute.
