Union secretary L Thoibi pointed out that mid-day meal workers play an important role in the implementation and execution of Mid- Day Meal scheme.
Although it has been around 29 years since the scheme was first launched, the honorarium received by mid-day meal workers remains at Rs 1000 per month.
While the centre has not considered increasing the honorarium, other state governments have increased the honorarium for their respective states, she pointed out and urged director of Education (S) to look into the matter as well as the central and state governments to increase the honorarium of the mid-day meal works on par with skilled workers.
She further urged for clearing the pending honorarium for seven months (October-April), and cautioned that in case of non-clearance, the workers would have no option other than stop cooking or quit the work altogether.
