Amit Shah commits to safeguard of territorial integrity
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, April 15 2024: Addressing a mega election rally at Hapta Kangjeibung here on Monday for BJP candidate for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency Thounaojam Basanta Kumar, Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured that BJP will safeguard the territorial integrity and accelerate development of the state.

Amit Shah, who arrived an hour late than schedule, declared that the BJP will protect Manipur from any threats of disintegration.

Nobody can dare to disintegrate Manipur.

Even if they try, BJP will not let them succeed, Shah pledged while stating that the upcoming election will be people's mandate for Manipur's future.

Highlighting sharp contrast between those who champion Manipur's integrity and those seeking to undermine it, he maintained the election this time is not a fight between BJP and Congress but between those who want to uphold Manipur's integrity and elements scheming to balkanise the state, while urging the voters to consider the broader implications of their choice.

Eulogising the leadership of Prime Minis- ter Narendra Modi for making all out efforts to unite and uplift the nation, Amit Shah also referred to the central government renaming Mount Harriet as Mount Manipur, and honouring the sacrifices of Manipur's freedom fighters including Maharaja Kullachandra.

The home minister also underscored BJPs commitment to recognising and commemorating the contributions of icons like Rani Gaidinliu.

Speaking about development, Amit Shah cited BJP s track record of progress in the Northeast region under Modi's leadership and elaborated on series of achievements, including the signing of 10 peace accords, surrender of over 9000 insurgents, and the implementation of transformative development projects.

These initiatives, he asserted, were emblematic of BJP s dedication to fostering growth and prosperity in Manipur and North East.

In a sharp critique of the then Congress government in Manipur, Shah pointed to a history of unrest and neglect apart from reminding about instances of protracted blockades on the highways, incidents of violence, and inadequate allocation of funds to the state.

Congress sanctioned Rs 39,000 crore to Manipur in 10 years, whereas the Modi government allocated Rs 1.2 lakh crore in the same period, he said, while accusing the Congress of prioritising separatist interests over the welfare of the state citizens.

Turning his attention to BJP's vision for Manipur's future, Amit Shah briefly mentioned an outline for addressing key challenges facing the state.

Further charging the Congress party of scheming demographic changes, he affirmed BJP's commitment to preserving Manipur's identity and territorial integrity with reference to border fencing and implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system, as proactive measures to safeguard Manipur's interests, as well as curb illegal drug trafficking.

Stating that Manipur is all set to elect Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a historic third term, Amit Shah called PM Modi as the beacon of hope for Manipur, adding that Modi is steering Manipur towards a brighter future".

Further stating that BJP ended corruption in Manipur, he assured the gathering that in the coming days, PM Modi's priority will be to maintain peace in the state.

"The Modi government's decisive actions have brought an end to the era of corruption, ensuring transparent governance and accountability, "said Amit Shah, adding that one of the key achievements of the Modi government over the past ten years has been the scrapping of the Free Movement Regime (FMR) with Myanmar, a crucial step to safeguard the demographic integrity of Manipur.

"The Modi government ended the Free Movement Regime to thwart the conspiracy to change the demography of Manipur," said Amit Shah.

Reaffirming the BJP government's resolve, union home minister Amit Shah declared, "No matter how hard anyone tries, we will not let anyone divide Manipur" .

Urging the people of Manipur to support BJP's Th Basanta Kumar and ensure a decisive victory for the party, Amit Shah appealed to the legacy of Basanta Kumar's father, who served as a Union Minister under former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

He implored voters to recognise the stakes of the election, portraying it as a pivotal moment in shaping Manipur's destiny.

The rally was attended by chief minister N Biren, BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda, as well as BJP MLAs and ministers.
