DESAM sticks to pre-merger status

Welcoming the three Bills introduced by the State Government on Friday in its effort to safeguard the indigenous communities of Manipur, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) said that the Government's first step after passing the Bills should be punishing all those police personnel involved in the killing of Sapam Robinhood and reopening of all educational institutes in the State.
A press statement released by secretary general of DESAM, Premchandra Pukhrambam said that the final decision of the ongoing indefinite hunger strike by volunteers of DESAM at different parts of the valley districts depends on the Government's decision to be known on August 31 .
Continuation of the hunger strike will be determined by the Government's decision to be taken on August 31, the release reiterated.
The statement also said that DESAM will stick to the demand for pre-merger status in safeguarding the indigenous communities as resolved by a public convention held on August 21 at GM Hall, Imphal.
