Business activities by non-locals in Khwairamband bazaar and its surrounding areas have been banned by women vendors of the four Ima Markets on Friday.
Women vendors of Leimarel Sidabi Ema Keithel, Imoinu Ema Keithel, Phouoibi Ema Keithel and Ema Panthoibi Sang Keithel jointly organised a huge sit-in protest cum public meeting at Khwairaband bazaar during which the ban was announced.
The step has been taken up by the women vendors as part of the ongoing ILPS stir as well as to mount pressure on the Government to introduce a legislation to safeguard the indigenous people of the State.
The meeting resolved to ban any business activities of non-locals in and around the Khwairamband bazaar, to focus mainly on the State products in commercial activities of the four markets and to provide work only to the indigenous people of the State in the markets.
During the meet, former convener of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS), Ibotombi Khuman said the unchecked influx of non-locals has posed a serious threat to the indigenous people of the State.
Ibotombi said that the Government should pass the present three bills and make them a law to protect the indigenous people.
He said entry of non-Manipuris into the State will be impossible once trains start reaching here.
