Senapati, August 28 2015 :
The NPF Manipur unit has warned of launching agitation over the delay in ADC formation in Chandel and Tamenglong districts and proposed amendment of certain Acts.
The NPF held an emergency State executive meeting at its head office, Senapati district Hqs today to deliberate on different issues pertaining to present situation in Manipur.
Addressing media persons after the executive meeting, NPF Manipur president Awangbou Newmai informed that the meeting mainly discussed on issues of delay in ADC formation in Chandel and Tamenglong, filling of vacant posts and ILPS issues.
The meeting was attended by leaders of NPF units from different districts, divisions and executive members of Manipur.
Another emergency meeting with NPF elected Members will be convened on Saturday to study and discuss on the Bills proposed to be passed in the Assembly special sitting.
Signalling mass agitation in the coming days, the NPF president warned that if the Manipur State Government continues to undermine the tribal rights by delaying the formation of ADCs in Chandel and Tamenglong districts, the party will react accordingly.
"It has been three months now since the results were declared and elected members officially approved through the Government gazette, but the Congress Government has been undermining the tribal's democratic rights by delaying the formation" he said.
Denying such constitutional and political rights of the tribals is hurting the sentiments of the people for which the NPF Manipur will take all possible democratic movement to fulfil the tribal rights, he warned.
Awangbou added that, the continuous agitation in Tamenglong demanding formation of the council has been ignored till today by the State Government.
On ILPS issue and Manipur Assembly session convened just for the issue, the NPF president stated that, the NPF Manipur has time and again supported the implementation of the original version of ILP in Manipur, however it will oppose tooth and nail if the tribals will be affected by the new amendments.
Lamenting the poor leadership of the State Government, the NPF leader said that, the present ILP issue is confined to only certain section of the people as there is no representation from the tribals.
Be it the JCILPS or the drafting committee of the Bill constituted by the Government, the tribals are never in the picture, he said.
He also expressed skepticism on the content of the three important Bills to be discussed and passed in the ongoing Manipur Assembly.
If any bill is against the interest of the tribals, then the NPF will oppose tooth and nail.
Awangbou also lambasted the Hill Area Committee (HAC) for remaining a mere machinery of the Government rather than performing its actual duties of protecting tribal and their interests.
He alleged that, the ILP issues were never discussed with the HAC nor due consultation taken from the tribal groups.
Hitting out at the Government, NPF Manipur mentioned that, the mob has taken the law into their hands.
There is total failure of the State machinery and rule of law is no more in Manipur, therefore, if the system continues to fail, then President Rule should be imposed in Manipur, he said.
Moreover, the NPF Manipur leaders have also reportedly met the Governor of Manipur three times to apprise the delay of ADC formation but nothing has been taken up till date, he informed.
