'Neutral' communities, Makhan VA condemn firing at Kanglatongbi

Imphal, May 29 2023: Various communities liv-ing in and around Kanglatongbi have condemned the firing inci-dent that occurred on May 27and other forms of violence.

"Following frequent occur-rences of violence and firing in-cidents inKanglatongbi area, we Liangmais, Tangkhuls, Rongmeis, Zemes, Gorkhalis, and the Hin-dustanSamaj living in thevillage are compelled to raise our own concern against the deliberate gross violation of peace and tran-quillity in the village," said a joint statement of Liangmai, Tangkhul, Rongmei, Zeme, Gorkhali and Hindustan Samaj communities.

The joint statement said that the village is inhabited by various communities who are vehemently against all acts of violence.

"How-ever, at the outset, it is with most unjust that villagers have been witnessing frequent firing inci-dents including with automatic sophisticated weapons whereby children, women, aged and sick people are traumatised due to fear and threat to their lives," they added.

It alsodescribed as uncalled for and unfortunate that attempts are being made to use the village as a battleground (or violence between the conflicting groups.

"The communities would like to convey a strong message to all concerned that no violation of law or violent acts will be allowed or tolerated in and around the village," the statement asserted, while addi ng, "Any unfortunate and untoward act will be dealt with severely without any further excusesgiving due regards to the law of the land".

The joint statement also condemned the RAF and state forces deployed at Kanglatongbi for their "unprofessional behaviour' of not executing their duty and responsibility sincerely.

"We urge them to effectively and responsibly perform their duties," the statement also said.

These groups then condemned violence in the strongest term and sought imme-diate attention of the state and the central governments to bring peace and harmony in the state.

Meanwhile, Makhan Village Authority has strongly condemned the firing inci-dent in the intervening night of May 27 and 28 in Lower Makhan (Kanglatongbi area) as the heavy and prolonged gunfight endangered lives and safety of the inno-cent civilian population.

Malchan Village Authority "vehemently condemned such reckless shoot-out in and around densely populated Lower Makhan and its vicinity, which is predominantly inhabited by the Liangmai community , while clarifying that the village has zero and null allegiance to either side of groups or parties involved in the unrest.

It then said that Makhan village gives free passage-way to every community, with numerous motorists and pedestrians plying and going to and fro.

The village is a peaceful zone and remains neutral.

The village authority also said that irre-spective of any individual or group of any community, the village is monitoring any-one passing through the village, believing everyone will look forward to restoring peace and harmony.

The village authority then said Makhan village gives passage-way from 6 am to 6 pm .
