Ukhrul, February 22 2024: The two-day Exhibition cum Sales and Seller-Buyer Meet organised by the Ukhrul District Community Resource Management Society (UDCRMS) concluded at the Khashimla Women Market Complex, Naga Gate, Hungpung on Thursday, registering a total turnover of Rs 4.8 lakh.

The valedictory function of the event was attended by Ukhrul ADC/ADM Nimmi A Khamrang as chief guest in the presence of DPD UDCRMS Lilly Rose Jajo and UDCRMS staffers.

Addressing the gathering, Khamrang said that she was delighted to witness the diverse range of local products showcased at the exhibition cum sales event.

Highlighting the importance of supporting and promoting local businesses, she appreciated the efforts of UDCRMS in organising such a grand event.

She expressed her joy at discovering that the region offers a variety of fresh vegetables, unlike other places where most vegetables are only available in a frozen state.

"Our land is blessed with natural abundance, and we must not overlook this precious gift.

Products imported from elsewhere are often produced using harmful chemicals, which not only take a toll on our health but also harm the environment," she cautioned.

"With the advancement of technology and modern amenities, our lives have improved significantly from the past.

But, we cannot afford to lose out on the benefits of our natural resources and capitalize on them," she said.

Nimmi then urged the local farmers to put in efforts toward promoting local economy, which will ultimately lead to a better standard of living in the community.

She emphasised that everything starts small and gradually grows, and urged local farmers to take small steps towards prosperity.

She also raised concerns about the current scenario of an influx of imported products in the market, which has the potential to disturb the natural ecosystem.

"I appeal to you all to take a stand and promote the use of local, indigenous seeds and crops, which not only preserves our ecosystem but also promotes a healthy lifestyle," she said.

At the same time, she encouraged farmers to opt for natural methods of farming rather than engaging in the mass production of crops using artificial means.

She reminded them that the quality of the produce is just as important as the quantity.

On behalf of UDCRMS, Lilly Rose Jajo expressed her gratitude to all supporters including line departments, participants and the public for making the event a big success.

"Today, this exhibition cum sales event has come to an end but let this not end our collaboration," she said and urged all to continue supporting the UDCRMS in its initiative in the coming years as well.

Earlier in the day, a buyer-seller meet was held at the venue as part of the event.

AS Themreiyo, general manager, DIC, Ukhrul; Peacemoon Zimik, president, Tangkhul Leihsak Long, and managing director, Career Pathfinder; Soso Zimik, chairperson, Zaoranao Sinshim and Chonmiwor Muinao, LDC, Small Town Committee, ADC, Ukhrul attended the meet as resource persons.

The two-day Exhibition cum Sales and Seller-Buyer Meet provided a platform for local sellers and buyers from Ukhrul and Kamjong districts to come together and showcase their products and services.

The closing ceremony witnessed a flurry of visitors and buyers, all of whom were impressed by the variety and quality of products on display.

Altogether 45 stalls showcased a diverse range of items, including handcrafted ornaments, traditional Tangkhul clothing, organic food products, locally processed fruit juices, value added goods and handicrafts.

During the function, the winners of the exhibition cum sales were announced.

Shomi NarmG Cluster Association was declared as the winner, while Manna NarmG Cluster Association and Reika NarmG Cluster Association secured the second and third positions, respectively.

They were awarded with cash prizes and certificates for their outstanding performance.

Apart from the fop three winners, the remaining 42 participants were also recognised and awarded with a token of cash and participatory certificates.

Through this gesture, UDCRMS encouraged all the participants for their efforts contribution towards developing the local economy.

Meanwhile, UDCRMS informed that the two-day event achieved a total turnover of Rs 4.8 lakh.
