Minister files defamation case

Imphal, June 03 2015 :
RK Memcha, chief judicial magistrate, Imphal west has taken cognizance of the defamation proceedings under section 500 IPC against Kangujam Karnajit, general secretary of Club 25 International Manipur.
If convicted he may be incarcerated for two years with or without fine.
Abdul Nasir, the agriculture minister had filed the defamation case against the accused contending that his reputation was lowered with the baseless charges.
Karnajit had convened a press conference on May 24 during which he charged the Minister with misbehaving with two girl delegates.
One girl from UP had denied it.
The charge was given wide publicity in a section of press and cable networks.
The court was of the view that the accused had made the imputation knowing that the victim's reputation would be damaged.
After registering the criminal case he was ordered to appear before the court on June 19 .
