Imphal, June 03 2015 :
Though almost all mainland states have banned sale of Maggi brand noodles there is no such restriction in Manipur.
This reporter who toured the Imphal town and small townships at the periphery saw that the noodles are on open sale.
Official sources said that the district food safety officers have been instructed to collect samples of Maggi for laboratory testings.
Besides samples of Nan pro 3, milk packets for children were also seized from several places for necessary testings.
Both high demand items are manufactured by the Nestle company.

However educated sections of people had stopped buying the same to feed their children.
This is the result of the media coverage on the presence of the lead at dangerous level in these noodles.
However the union government had instructed all state governments to test samples of the Maggi noodles on sale in the respective states.
Sources said that some samples had been collected for sending to a laboratory in Kolkata where these will be tested.
The outcome is awaited.
The sleight of hand of the businessmen was such that at least Goa said that there is no lead presence at dangerous level and that these noodles are fit for eating by the children.
It is also learnt that the government has sent samples of Maaza cold drinks for laboratory testings.
This follows the report that one housewife became unconscious after drinking it some days ago.
However there is no ban on sale of the same brand and unlettered persons unaware of the threat of the poisonous soft drink are buying the same.
