Mass rally against proxy voting, booth capturing

Protesting against proxy voting and booth capturing during the recently conducted Autonomous District Council elections, supporters of BJP and Independent candidates of 10-Aihang and 13-Vomku District Council Constituencies conducted a mass protest rally in Chandel district headquarters today, reports our correspondent.
Protesters rallied till the office complex of Chandel Deputy Commissioner and submitted a memorandum to DC Robert Kshetrimayum Singh.
Speaking to media persons, SK Setoi, an Independent candidate of 10- Aihang District Council Constituency alleged, "When I, along with my election agent went to the polling station of 10/1 Aihang at around 6.30 am on the voting day, volunteers of a particular candidate prohibited us from entering the polling station even after I produced my identity card.
After the arrival of Assam Rifles personnel, we went to the polling station again but the volunteers of the said candidate alongwith some unknown youth waylaid us at the village gate and prohibited us from proceeding further" .
Appealing the authority concerned to take up necessary action for conducting free and fair repoll, SK Setoi also maintained that even after submitting a written complaint, no action has been taken up so far by the Returning Officer concerned.
Worker of BJP candidate of 13 Vomku DCC, Angkhulon Shilshi also alleged that some workers of a particular candidate captured the polling stations of 13/4 Larong Khullen, 13/7 Phiran Khullen and 13/8 Anal Khullen.
In the meantime, four candidates of 12-district headquarters of District Council Constituency in Chandel district today demanded the Returning Officer of Chandel to relocate the venue for repoll slated for June 6 .
The candidates namely PS Ngamnung (Naga People's Front), Hulang David (Independent), HT Kilaching (Independent) and Sr Ngamhlung (Bharatiya Janata Party) submitted an application requesting that 12/4 �Kanankhu polling station be shifted to Japhou Maha Union Government Higher Secondary School.
Stating that the polling station at Kanankhu is close to the residential house of an Independent candidate Tongsin Willingson, the candidates in the application said that the same untoward incident which occurred on June 1 might recur if the polling station is not shifted.
