The existing infrastructure of Ideal Girls College, Imphal would is not in match with the semester system to be introduced from the current academic session, general secretary of the college students' union A Sonia Devi has stated.
Addressing a press conference in connection with the infrastructural requirements of the college today, Sonia informed that out of the total 84 students studying in the college, 6 of them are in XI Arts, 9 in XI Sc, 11 in XII Arts, 17 in XII Sc, 13 in BA Ist year, 15 in BA 2nd year and 13 other in BA 3rd year.
In XI and XII standard, Arts and Science stream are being offered to the students.
But there is only Arts stream at graduate level.
Moreover, there are 13 non-teaching staff and 40 teaching staff in the college.
Out of this, 19 are regular post while 21 are part time, she said, adding that there is shortage of teachers in all the departments including Manipuri, Education, Political Science, Geography, History, Economics, Philosophy, Mathematics, Home Science, Environmental Science, Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Physics, Physical Sports and English.
She further informed that there is only one librarian in the college but no clerk.
The post of a regular principal and a regular director of the college have also been lying vacant all these years, thereby affecting the proper administration of the college, she disclosed.
She also highlighted the problems related to lack of proper class rooms, toilet facility, water, electricity, laboratory, etc that are students are facing.
The hostel construction inside the college campus too has not been made functional due to lack of necessary infrastructure, she added, while appealing to the authorities concerned for taking up necessary measures to redress the grievances of the students.
So, with the existing infrastructure, the college may be still off the mark for the introduction of semester system, she added.
