Imphal, July 15 2010:
Even as situation in the border town of Moreh continues to remain tense following the threat issued against leaders of Meetei Council, Moreh (MCM) by suspected armed cadres of KNA, the Council has imposed an indefinite bandh along the Imphal-Moreh Road with effect from 5 am today.
Observing that frequent instances of intimidation and other crimes committed by KNA has created fear psychosis among the people of various communities living in Moreh, the Council has also made it clear that the bandh would remain in force until the armed outfit came out with an explanation in connection with the incident.

Addressing a press conference in this connection at Manipur Press Club here today, assistant secretary of the Council Thoiba Ningthouja recounted that a group of fully armed KNA cadres came looking for MCM leaders at their respective houses and threatened them in the night of July 13 .
The conduct of the armed cadres of KNA, which is a signatory of Suspension of Operation with the Government, has created fear among the people of various communities with exception to Kukis living in Moreh, Thoiba informed.
Thoiba said that this is not the first time that KNA cadres have acted in such a manner.
Since 1992-93, KNA cadres have been killing people and unleashing a reign of terror in the border town.
Highlighting some of the crimes that have been committed by KNA cadres from 1995 to 2010, Thoiba recalled that on May 20, 1995, KNA cadres killed one Tamilian youth identified as Panir Selvam after being abducted.
In 1996, Brajamohan alias Mudeno of Moreh Turel Wangma Leikai Ward no.7, who was a fisherman, was killed and abandoned near Menal river.
On January 12, 2005, KNA cadres shot dead one goldsmith from Moreh Heinou Makhong Leikai Ward no.7 right in front of Moreh police check post.
On August 11, 2006, president of AMSU Chandel District Committee Sunil Agarwal was killed by KNA cadres.
On June 7, 2007, KNA cadres killed Yumnam Roshan Singh, a member of MCM at Moreh Bazar.
On June 9, 2007, five Meeteis, out of six of them, abducted by KNA, were found shot dead.
The 6th person managed to escape.
All six of them were engaged as labourers in the construction of an auditorium.
Thoiba said.
Vice president of MCM N Pulindro, who was also present during the press conference, said that such criminal activities of armed KNA cadres have created a fear psychosis in the mind of the people of various communities living in Moreh including Meetei, Punjabi, Marwari, Bengali, Oriya, Nepali, Tamil, Bihari etc.
However, the security forces posted in Moreh including Moreh Police, 31 Assam Rifles, MR, etc have been keeping quiet and doing nothing to stop the armed KNA cadres.
Rather, the armed KNA cadres are being given complete freedom to do whatever they like, he alleged.
He further said that KNA should restrain from inciting communal tension and violence and Kuki frontal organisations should advice the KNA in this regard.
It may be noted that in protest against the July 13 night incident, MCM and Kha-Ngongpok Apunba Nupi Lup, Moreh are currently enforcing an indefinite bandh in the border town.
