Imphal, July 15 2010:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) reiterating its demand for resignation of L Jayentakumar as education minister strongly charged him as the main accused in the controversy surrounding the selection of primary school teachers in the education department.
In a press statement issued today by publicity and propaganda secretary of DESAM, L Bobisana, charged that the education minister, L Jayentakumar is the main culprit behind the recent selection of primary school teachers.
The high level inquiry committee set up to investigate into the controversy was a whitewash policy to cover up the misdeeds of the minister in office.
The education minister should resign on moral ground and make the inquiry a meaningful one, he stated.
DESAM took seriously the matter when the DPC for selection of primary school teachers is marred with irregularities.
DESAM has sufficient evidence to prove irregularities in the DPC.
A number of candidates who failed in the written test were in the final selected list as published in an Imphal based daily.
The student body questioned how the names of failed candidates were in the merit list, it pointed out.
The statement further said that if the education minister does not resign voluntarily, then it is the responsibility of the Chief Minister to force him quit from his office.
The former Education Director and Additional Director were made scapegoats to cover up the irregularities, it charged.
