Imphal, October 17 2024:
Meetei Council Moreh (MCM) has urged the government to extend healthcare benefits under the Chief Ministergee Hakshelgee Tengbang (CMHT) scheme to the displaced people, allowing them to access treatment not only in government hospitals but also in private facilities.
The appeal came in the light of difficult economic conditions faced by those who have been displaced.
MCM president M Thoiba highlighted the financial hardships faced by the displaced, many of whom fled their homes without any belongings or income.
He noted that, in many cases, specialised treatment is required, which may not always be available in government hospitals, making access to private healthcare crucial.
So far, 12 displaced individuals from Moreh have lost their fives due to various health conditions.
The latest case was that of 60-year-old N Khambi, a resident of Moreh Ward No 7, who passed away on Tuesday.
Thoiba expressed concern over the lack of proper healthcare for displaced individuals and urged the government to take swift action to address their vulnerabilities.
