Remembrance Day held at ANSAM Memorial Park

The 11th Remembrance Day to honour martyrs was observed at the ANSAM Memorial Park located in Kapaam (Komlathabi), Chandel district, on Wednesday.
The event was marked by laying wreaths by members of various Naga civil society organisations as a mark of respect to the martyrs.
Speaking at the event,'Chandel Naga Students Union president Ruwnglar Elly Anal expressed gratitude to the fallen heroes and urged ANSAM team to enhance the park's aesthetics as a fitting tribute as ANSAM president M Luikang Luckson honoured sacrifices made by the martyrs, to showcase unwavering commitment to defending the rights, land, and history of the Naga people.
While many who gave their lives remained nameless and faceless, they lighted the way and that's the reason why people honour them as heroes and martyrs, he said, while adding that although the association might not be able to honour them in the way they deserve, they are dearly remembered on this day.
While mentioning the names of 9 martyrs, the president of ANSAM asserted that the Story of the fallen heroes will always remain in the hearts of the Nagas.
The programme included an emotional eulogy honouring nine martyrs, including Shelley Chara (1958-1995), Ng Sani (1920-1998), Ashun R Jangvei (1961-1998), Namthiurei Abonmei (1966-2005), Gemcliff V Zimik (1972-2007), Neli Chakho (1990-2010), Dikho Loshou (1990-2010), Mayopam Ramror (1979-2014) and Ramkashing Vashi (1988-2014).Naga Hoho president Sulanthung Lotha, who was also present on the occasion, highlighted the Significance of Martyrs' Day, which is commemorated annually on June 19 .
He emphasised the sacrifices made by those who fought for independence and sovereignty, urging all to uphold their values of justice and democracy.
The event also witnessed solidarity messages from prominent Naga organisations including Naga Students' Federation (NSF), United Naga Council (UNC), Naga Mothers' Association (NMA), Naga Women's Union (NWU), and Naga People's Movementfor Human Rights (NPMHR).
Chandel Naga Christian Forum (CNCF) president Shon-nai Saka, offered prayers for the families of the martyrs, while ANSAM presented gifts to the families as a token of remembrance and gratitude.
