Scribes decide to lodge complaint with Governor

Imphal, February 09, 2011: Decrying the attempt to abduct sub-editor, K Manikanta Hueiyen Lanpao ( English edition), a meeting of scribes under AMWJU today decided to lodge a complaint with the state Governor.

Earlier, in a meeting held at the Manipur Press Club, the scribes decided to launch a two day black badge protest on February 10 and 11 and to submit a representation to the Governor tomorrow.

Scribes taking part in the meeting strongly condemned the attempted abduction saying that the incident has shown that the government is not able to maintain law and order and to protect the lives of the common people.

This is a situation in which scribes find it difficult to discharge their duties freely.

The meeting also decided to appeal to the editors of all dailies to write and comment on through their editorial columns about the instances of threats, abductions, assaults and killings of scribes in the state and the problems faced by the media houses as a result.

AMWJU's vice president and spokesperson, A Mobi today informed the scribes of the state to renew their memberships (for those already admitted to the union) or to enroll fresh memberships on or before February 25.Prescribed forms can be had from the AMWJU office at Manipur Press Club.

He further informed that a draft list of members of the AMWJU will be published on February 28 and claims and objections can be done on or before March 5, 2011.The final membership list will be published on March 10.The renewal fee is ` 30 and the enrolment fee is ` 50.Those who already applied for membership but have not yet been approved by the general body needs to meet or contact convener, Khellen Thokchom of Membership Screening Committee on or before 15th of the current month.
