A day after a woman died during child delivery at Advanced Specialty Hospital and Research Institute at Palace compound on November 20, a case of still birth at RIMS provoked the patient party to agitate against the hospital authority yesterday.
Following a case of still birth to a woman during normal delivery at the Gynecology ward of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, family members of the mother strongly protested against the doctor whose negligence had allegedly caused the death of the child before delivery.
The woman who delivered the still baby has been identified as Mutum Suni (21) wife of M.Sunilkumar from Thoubal Kiyam Babu Bazar.
She had been attending routine check-up by Dr Rameshore every week during pregnancy.
On her health check-up up on November 13 last, Dr.Rameshore asked the woman to get admitted at RIMS on November 27 for the normal delivery.
However, due to labour pain, she was brought to RIMS hospital for admission at 8 am today.
At the ward, the attending doctors and nurses advised her to wait.
Dr Rameshore was not available at that time reportedly due to his other engagement.
At 10 am, after examining the woman, a doctor said that the delivery was to happen at MM-7 and it was by that time only MM-4.The patient was asked to wait for more time.
At around 2.30 pm, the patient party called the doctor when the labour pain increased considerably.
However, as there was no doctor, the patient party drove in the pregnant woman to the laboratory room.
After 40 minutes, the woman delivered a dead girl child.
As expressed by the family members, the still birth was due to negligence by the attending doctors and nurses at the hospital.
They said patients coming from far-off places are always neglected at the hospital.
On the other hand, the Superintendent of RIMS gave his version that the child died due to heart failure during delivery.
However, family members refuted the reason, charging the doctors of gross negligence.
It may be mentioned that a mother died during delivery at Advanced Specialty Hospital and Research Institute at Palace compound on Thursday.
Locals of Kakwa Liwa Road Naorem Leikai stormed the hospital after Laishram ongbi Prabina (29) w/o Romen died after giving birth to a baby boy.
