Governor hails NDRF's sincerity, dedication

Imphal, August 25 2023: Governor of Anusuiya Uikey said that sincerity, professionalism and dedication shown by the rescue personnel during disasters have earned the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) its name and fame.

It has made rescuers so popular among the countrymen that the rescue workers have been named as "angels in disaster" by the citizens of the country, she added.

Speaking at a special event organised by Gau Samagra on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan festival in New Delhi on Friday, the Governor continued that it is important to tie Rakhi to the officers and personnel of NDRF because the world's largest force dedicated to help in times of disaster has always come forward to rescue.

She stated that the force has always been maintaining a high standard of dedication and commitment for the last several years at the time of natural calamities.

Through disaster management, disaster guards have been protecting the citizens at various places by risking their lives, she added.

While recalling natural calamities like heavy rains, cloud bursts, landslides, damage to houses have occurred in the country especially in Himachal Pradesh in the current year, Governor Anusuiya stated that in these calamities, the people of the country have seen the brave disaster management guards serving the public.

The NDRF has saved more than 1.48 lakh precious human lives and also rescued more than 7 lakh stranded people from disaster situations in the country and abroad so far, she remarked.

The Governor said, "For this Raksha Bandhan festival, sacred Raksha Bandhan i.e., Rakhi has been prepared by Gau Samagar from the dung of native cow, and these defence threads will be tied to the brave warriors of National Disaster Management Authority.

Rakhis made of cow dung are being used today and therefore it is necessary to know about the cow and its cow dung".

While stating that cow is given respect like mother and cow is called as cow-mother in the country, the Governor expressed her belief that the cow is representative of divinity and natural grace and hence should be protected and worshipped.

The worship of cow in Hindu religion dates back to the Vedic period, she stated, adding that, the veneration of the cow is indicated by the use of Panchagavya, the five products of the cow, milk, curd, butter, urine and cow dung, in the rites of purification and atonement.

The medicinal importance of cow is also very high, cow's milk is like nectar, Governor added.
