Speaking to media persons, MAYOL convenor Asem Prince informed that the long march being organised with the objective to regenerate the dying Manipuri society, protect the indigenous communities in the state, promote peaceful co-existence, bring uniform development and restore peace in the state.
He further stated that as the violence that broke out on May 3 was orchestrated to destroy the Meetei community all need to unitedly fight such diabolic plan to divide the various communities which have been living together in peace since time immemorial.
The long march will conclude at the Gambhir Singh Park at Canchipur on January 9, 2024 .
The long march proceeded towards Heingang side and assembled at Heingang Kangjeibung where a public meeting was held.
After the meeting, the rallyists proceeded towards Sekmai and halted at Sekmai community hall.
They will hold the night there.
Several meetings will be conducted at different places during the course of the long march.
Meanwhile, MAYOL in a press release made available to the media, said that the first thing we need to do to battle divisive elements is to concentrate on community politics as politics is the steering wheel of a society and it will decide the fate of a community.
We also need to know that it is also this very 'politics' which is creating chaos in a society and leading to its degradation.
Therefore, we need to carefully understand politics and do politics to save our society by bringing good governance, the release said.
It also expressed gratitude to the people for the support in organising the long march.
On the second day, the long march will carry on to wards Khurkhul and proceed till Lamsang.
