Ex-CMO, activist face bomb threats

Imphal, November 12 2023:
Unknown persons placed a hand grenade at the Kakching Paji Leikai Ayangbung Pareng residence of retired chief medical officer Dr Nongmaithem Birchandra (67), son of (late) N Yaima.
The grenade was found around 5 pm Sunday at the garage cum waiting area in the ground floor of Dr Birchandra's house.
On receipt of the bomb threat, a team led by Kakching police station OC Wangkheimayum Romi conducted preliminary investigation while Manipur Police bomb experts retrieved the explosive device safely around 9:45 pm.
In another incident, unknown persons placed a hand grenade at the gate of Nongada residence of social worker Sapamcha Kangleipal on Sunday.
According to police report, the hand grenade was found covered in newspaper and placed at the gate when family members went to collect the newspaper around 6 am Sunday.
It is not known who and why the bomb was placed.
Personnel of Lamlai police station along with state bomb disposal squad arrived at the spot around 9:30 am and retrieved the bomb safely.
Meanwhile, Nongada Village Development Committee, Meira Paibi and Eastern Lion Club Nongada condemned planting of bomb at Kangleipal's Nongada Awang Leikai house and causing fear among the locals.
In a statement, they demanded clarification by all concerned reason for such threat and further urged not to repeat such act amidst the on-going turmoil in the state.
