IPSA observes Dark Day

International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) and Dark Day Observance Committee-2025 on Sunday jointly observed Dark Day, held annually to mark the day when the British occupied the historic Kangla on April 27, 1891 .
The Dark Day observed at the Centenary Hall of Manipur University was attended by Manipuri Historical Society president professor Naorem Joykumar, former JNIMS director Dr L Deben, UCM and COCOMI consultative member Yumnamcha Dilipkumar, Thoubal Apunba Lup president W Romeshwar, KANGLAMEI president Y Leirikleima and Kanglei Ima Lup (KIL) president RK Sanahanbi as presidium members.
Regarding the observance, IPSA president Maibam Bisheshwor said the British defeated Manipur in the Anglo-Manipuri war of 1891 and hoisted their Union Jack flag inside Kangla on April 27, 1891, which IPSA has been observing as Dark Day every year.
People of Manipur have suffered a lot in different phases of history due to disunity among the princes and hence present leaders should work as per pulse of the people and support each other to bring development in the society, he said and called for bringing unity among hills and valley people.
Manipur is yet to break apart but almost divided as there is no free movement at present, Bisheshwor said and stressed the need for hills and valley people to work together to foster a united Manipur.
