Imphal, June 15 2012:
The Soraren Repertory Theatre has been relentlessly trying to impart the value and importance of culture and tradition among the youths of Manipur as well as to uplift the moral of the youngsters from the onslaught of westernization in the Manipuri society.
As part of its effort, the Theatre group has been organizing summer camps for children of the state every year.
During the summer camps the children are taught various subjects including Fine Arts, Folk Dance, Mask making, theatre and Crafts and others related to the culture and tradition of Manipur.
The participating children are also taken for study tour to historical places of the state.
During the recently held 5th Summer Camp at Kakwa Asem Leikai, around 30 students from various schools participated in 15-day long event.
Each of the participants was charged a nominal registration fee of Rs 100, and all other financial requirements were borne by Satyajit Birkangsha, Director of Soraren Repertory Theatre.

Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Satyajit Birkangsha said that with majority of the people in the state started neglecting their culture and traditions, there is apprehension that the Manipuri culture and tradition would fade away in near future.
Keeping this in mind, the Soraren Repertory Theatre has been organizing summer camps every year to imbibe social values in young minds.
He pointed out that Manipuri society has come to such a stage today where the parents do not even have time to spend with their children.
As a result, most of the children hardly understand the value of their own culture and tradition today.
Recalling how the idea of organizing summer camps for children came to him, Satyajit Birkangsha said that he was inspired by the spectacle of young children playing traditional instruments of their respective countries during the International Mime Festival in Korea when Manipuri children do not even know how to play Pena.
