Imphal, April 15 2024: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who left Manipur with a promise to return within ten days and resolve the conflict in the said period, finally revisited the state after 11 months in view of the upcoming polls.

However, the statements he made during his visit are all lies.

Instead of standing by the promise he made 11 months ago, he is reiterating the same statements like a broken record player, mocked the Congress.

Addressing a press meet held at Congress Bhawan on Monday evening, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) working president Kh Devabrata said that Amit Shah, who returned to the state after 11 months instead of his promised 10 days, left again while placing all blame on Congress.

It seems he (Amit Shah) has forgotten how to behave and speak like a leader, seeing how he is bringing up unfortunate incidents, which is likely to cause tension.

Stating that Congress was able to come up with solutions to any issue during its rule, Devabrata remarked that no solution has been achieved in any of the incidents occurring during BJP's term.

The 11-month long conflict gripping the state will remain etched in the history of India, he said.

Questioning Shah's statements on the ILP system, the working president questioned the type of ILP which has been implemented.

He said that Congress has always supported the ILP but the existing ILP lacks data, as shown in the relevant website.

There is no data on how many illegals have been identified, how many are in possession of the permit and the number of renewed permits till date on the website.

"Shah claims that the candidate of India Bloc represents the disintegration of the state.

However, he previously stated that external forces are trying to disintegrate Manipur.

The same has been also been stated by the CM of Mizoram.

In addition, a report of the Ministry of Home published in 2021-23 clearly states the status of the border fencing, adding that work has begun to fence 10km of the border.

Moreover, the required survey and other works for border fencing have already been completed.

The delay in the fencing works is because of loss Manipur's territory.

Thus, Shah's statements are basically lies," Devabrata retorted.

Congress ex-MLA Kh Ratankumar, who also attended the press meet, said that Manipur is currently burning and facing a difficult situation.

As such, the people demanded deferment of the polls for some time since it would not be a free and fair election.

However, the polls are going to be held as scheduled, compelling the people to participate in the exercise amidst the tense situation, he noted.

Stating that the upcoming election is different from others with many dead or injured and thousands displaced, the ex-MLA contended that Congress is not interested in playing political blame game when the people are suffering.

He continued that Congress is merely clarifying the false allegations levelled by the BJP as part of its strategy to divert the situation by putting the blame on Congress.

"While Shah's visit to the state is appreciated albeit 11 months late; he (Shah) still failed to keep the promises made to restore peace in the state.

However, the question is how he plans to restore peace when the state has been unstable for the past 11 months.

It further begs the question on what hidden agenda is at play," the ex-MLA posed.

Ratankumar continued that the people of Manipur are suffering with many unable to return to their homes.

What the people need is concrete action, not mere words.

He then questioned why the government has been unable to bring the two communities to talk to each other for almost a year.
