Tamenglong, February 09, 2011: As many as 60 NE children were trafficked to unrecognised children homes, Calvary Baptist College and Vishwnagar Karjit, Mumbai, Maharastra.

Out of the 60, 30 children are from Tousem Sub- Division of Tamenglong district, the rest are from Assam and Nagaland, a reliable source said.

All the 30 children were from New and Old Mandeu village of Tosuem and they are between six to fourteen years of age, the source added.

The children were taken away by three agents promising free and better education.

The children were taken away from 2006 to 2008. The Social Welfare Department, Govt of Manipur in collaboration with Child Welfare Committee Tamenglong had organized public hearings to make aware parents and guardians of the need to end child trafficking.

The District Social Welfare Office and Child Welfare Committee, declined to comment on the bringing back of the children from Maharastra.

An attempt was also made to contact DC Tamenglong, but the DC was not in his office.

An attempt to meet him at his bungalow also failed.

Out of the 30 children 25 have been identified.
