AISGEC meet calls for action on Manipur crisis, protest

The All India State Government Employees' Confederation (AISGEC), in its national executive meeting held in Kolkata on Sunday, resolved to urge for immediate political dialogue to addressing the ongoing crisis in Manipur.
The meeting also discussed issues faced by state government employees and announced a nationwide protest, including taking out rally and stating dharna near the Parliament in April, followed by an all-India strike.
Presided over by AISGEC viee-president M Joykumar and attended by general secretaries Josh Prakash, Dr Nirmala, and Ranjit Singh Ramma, the meeting figured issues affecting workers and the middle class amidst neoliberal policies, corporatisation, and government emphasis bn contract services.

Among the leaders, Josh Prakash presented the activity report, which was followed by discussions on challenges such as discrepancies in central and state pay ceilings, inferior dearness allowance for state employees, inconveniences in securing pension benefits after retirement, and hardships faced by in-service employees, particularly in the teaching profession.
A resolution focusing on the Manipur crisis, moved by Manipur representatives M Joykumar, Th Anita, and RK Hemeshori, was unanimously approved.
The resolution highlighted the dire situation in the state, where hundreds have been killed, houses have been burned, and tens of thousands remain displaced in relief camps.
Noting that government employees in Manipur are also facing severe difficulties due to the ongoing unrest, AISGEC called on the union government to immediately initiate political dialogues with the concerned stakeholders to restore peace and address the humanitarian crisis.
Others resolutions in eluded call for addressing the issue of appointments sans reservation, and criticised the unwritten ban on recruitment imposed by central and state governments, which undermines constitutional provisions on reservation.
The confederation noted that only Kerala adheres to the recruitment process through its Public Service Commission, while other states follow practices influenced by vested interests.
To combat these challenges, the meet resolved to launch a nationwide propaganda campaign, which will wind up with a march and dharna in front of the Parliament in April 2025, followed by a nationwide strike to demand the restoration of constitutional principles and justice for marginalised communities.
