Imphal, January 02 2025:
A hand grenade was found placed on Thursday at the residential gate of elder brother of Laishram Kamalbabu, whose whereabouts remain unknown after disappearing from Leimakhong Army camp.
According to a police report, Kamalbabu's elder brother, Laishram Binod Singh (67) of Loitang Khunou Maning Leikai under Sekmai police station spotted the hand grenade around 7 am .
On receipt of the report, a police team arrived at the scene, and safely retrieved the grenade.
The police also discovered a note beside the bomb, with the words reading, "Kamalbabu gi JAC da aroiba warning, JAC muthatlaga anouba JAC semgadabani, thikadar/ contractor amata yaoba yaroi - KCP (Final warning to Kamalbabu JAC, Dissolve current JAC and form a new JAC without any contractors in it - KCP)" .
Sekmai police has registered a case and investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, condemning the threat, the Meira Paibi members of Loitang Khunou and surrounding areas staged a sit-in protest at Loitang Khunou Bazar on Thursday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, JAC member Maibam Purnimashi strongly condemned the act and denounced the threat to the JAC.
Asserting that the JAC executives cannot be replaced without any valid reason, she explained that contractors were included in the JAC as they had to take responsibility for allowing Kamalbabu to work in the Leimakhong army camp.
The JAC has continued to work responsibly to this day and has never compromised with anybody, Purnimashi affirmed and termed the act of traumatising Kamalbabu's family members, who are already in shock, as highly condemnable.
Mention may be made that the JAC has been spearheading the protests since Kamalbabu, originally from Cachar district in Assam, went missing on November 25 .
CM N Biren, recently claimed that the case would be handed over to the CBI.
Kamalbabu was a works supervisor for a contractor working with the Military Engineering Services (MES) in Leimakhong Military Station of the 57th Mountain Division.
It is also pertinent to add here that amid protests over his disappearance, Social Welfare minister Heikham Dingo had said that all documents related to Kamalbabu were sent to the Prime Minister's Office as well as the offices of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah.
