Imphal, October 12 2010: With the flood situation improving, government agencies, NGOs, local clubs, politicians, and social workers have started concentrating in extending relief materials in the affected areas.

Students' bodies also taking part in the relief operations which were in full swing today.

Government agencies and NGOs seem to neglect certain affected areas just because they are low profile A/Cs.

These affected people are crying out loud for help.

One such neglected area is the Porompat Thawanthaba Leikai and its surrounding areas in Imphal east under Kshetrigao Assembly Constituency but at the border with Wangkhei A/C where many social workers, politicians, NGOs have rushed to help.

Around 200 people are taking shelter at a relief camp opened by local club, Unemployment Youth Learners' Association, at a local market place.

The area was flooded by over flow from the Imphal river that was breached at Hatta Golapati as well as by the overflow of Kongba river.

Some families are yet to return to their homes which are still water logged.

The opening of a relief camp there had been brought to the notice of the Imphal east DC and the local MLA but only for the MLA and two social workers extended some relief items.

No other agencies, be it government or NGOs, came up to extend help to the people taking shelter at the relief camp, W Hemanta, a local youth lamented.

Relating the suffering of the people at the relief camp, he also drew the attention of the government authorities.

Meanwhile, in the adjoining Wangkhei area government agencies have started distribution of rice released from government stores in the flood affected areas, CAF&PD minister, Y Erabot too distributed rice today.

Roughly 752 quintals of rice meant for flood affected people were distributed by officials of the Imphal east DC office in presence of the minister, who is also the local MLAs with security protection by Imphal east police.

The relief items were distributed to flood affected people at Soibam Leikai, Soibam Leikai Khanglabung, Modern College, Chingangbam Leikai, Wangkhei Angom Leikai, Tribal Colony, Dimdailong, Thangjam Leikai and Khurai Ahongei etc.

In Khundrakpam AC a local MLA and Deputy Speaker, Th Lokeshwor provided rice to the flood affected people while inspecting the affected areas.

Ten kg of rice was distributed to each family affected by the flood.

MLA, L Nandakumar of Uripok AC also distributed 800 bags of rice to the people of his constituency affected by flood.

He also inspected the flood affected areas.

Volunteers of the Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) too distributed relief materials at various flood affected areas of Bishnupur and Imphal east district today.

They distributed rice, dal, salt, candles and medicines to the people taking shelter at the relief camps opened near their localities.

Meanwhile, a woman who fainted on seeing flood water entering in into her house has died.

The 60 year old victim was identified as Soibam Mema wife of Thagoi of Lilong Arapti Awang Leikai.

Local report said that failed to return to normalcy after she fainted unconscious when she saw flood water rushing into her house.
